Company Org Chart broken down in smaller org charts in new tabs with custom managers imported from Excel file

I have a large org chart, (hundreds of people) with multiple layers of managers stored in an excel file. I've used that file to import and automatically build my giant org chart. (very cool btw) Because this org chart is so large I want to break it down in one of the following ways.

Option 1:

I want to be able to have multiple tabs with org charts for middle managers. (When I import I don't want to create a tab for all managers, just the ones that I want). Or if that's not possible, is there is a way to build out my custom tabs after I import my huge org chart? Whatever custom changes I make in Lucidchart, I want the custom org charts to refresh as changes are made in my excel sheet.

Option 2:

If option 1 doesn't work, once I have my org chart imported from excel, it would be great if I could create layers to hide the direct reports of whichever manager I want and have the table re-size accordingly. The only way I can find how to do this is by building the entire org chart manually and setting layers as you go. (This would take too long) Is it possible to import the entire org chart and then build layers?

Hi Brennan,

Thanks for posting in the community. I think what your're trying to do would be possible by using our new "group view" functionality. More information on using group view can be found in this help center article. Feel free to let me know if you have any further questions or issues with this!

Thanks for the reply. From my understanding, groups just take my entire org chart and make "groups" in a flat format. (not an org chart view) For example, If I group by "Team", I get a new tab with my 5 team categories with all employees ranked alphabetically. Instead of showing everybody alphabetically, is there a way to still show an org chart in group view?

Can you also respond to the second part of my above question. After importing an org chart from Excel, is it possible to create layers to hide and unhide sections of the chart? Or do I have to build my org chart from scratch in order to use layers?

Hi Brennan,

Thanks for clarifying; group view could not still show an org chart. However, if this would be useful for you, please let us know via our feature request form. In the meantime, you could try using filters. Filters wouldn't create a new tab, but it would still show an org chart.

Unfortunately, it is not possible to move objects in an org chart to different layers once the org chart has been created. Again, if this would be useful for you, please let us know!
