Floor plan shapes. Windows and doors do not rotate.

Help!

Hi Jennifer! Windows do not rotate. You simply drag them out and insert them into one of the walls of your floorplan, and they will snap into position depending on the direction of your wall. For doors, the same is true. They will snap into position on the walls of your floorplan. You can control the direction in which a door opens by dragging the door in the direction you'd like it to swing from the purple box (see screenshot).

You can change the direction of a door opening i.e. inwards or outwards but you cannot get anything other than a left handed hinge on an inward opening door and a right handed hinge on outward opening.

Maybe I'm just wanting the diagram to be precise, surely it can do this?

Jonathan can you try the the third door in the library? You can drag out the third door and the hinge will be on the other side than the first.

I've tried every door in the library and they all hinge the same direction.  Anything else I can try?

Hi Heidi! Check out this image, which I think might better explain. On the first two, the hinge is on the left side of the doors, and on the second two, the hinge is on the right side of the doors. You simply need to use the the purple block that's on the actual door (the part that swings) to adjust the direction the door swings in. Let me know if you have any other questions. :)

Did anybody get this to work?  Each of the four door options all do the exact same thing.  I have tried moving the box but that still doesn't put the hinge where it needs to be.  Have you noticed browser specific problems?  Please help.

Hi Seth-

To get the hinges to swing left or right, you will want to use the shapes that were recommended by Monika. The fifth object has the hinge on the right side when you insert like the image below.

One.PNG

If you select the door, you will want to click on blue box that appears on it to adjust whether it swings out or in. The hinge will remain the same though.

I hope this helps. Please let me know if you have any other questions.

Hi there,

I too have the same issue as Seth.Michelle and Monika, I tried your solution it doesn't work, all the doors (3rd through 6th items in that drag and drop list), as available today, do not have different senses as they swing open, they give the same door. (all equivalent to your door "red 1").

Is there a way to flip the door? For now I've shrunk and rotated a spiral staircase as a proxy.

Thanks for your help!

Hi Rachel,

I just sent you an email of a screencast of me inserting door hinges in different directions. (I cannot attach recordings on forum posts.) Let me know if you have any questions!

I found that it depends on what direction you drag the door in from.  If I pick the same door, but drag it in from the top of the wall it snaps on a different direction then if I drag it in from the bottom of the wall.  Weird!

Sorry guys, I've tried everything I can think of, but as far as mine is working, those 4 swinging door icons all swing from the same direction. per the above comment, I've tried dragging in from all sides of the screen, have tried firefox and chrome, have tried vertical and horizontal walls, all produce the same result. Have attached screenshot to show. Not sure what I'm doing wrong?

I also have the issue whereby the door hinge is always on the same side regardless of what shape is used or from what direction I drag the door onto the wall. Has this issue been resolved?

Hi Andi, thanks for reaching out. If you'll notice Michele and Monika's comments on this thread, they walk you through the trick to getting doors to swing the other way. Unfortunately we don't have a shape or button that allows for this to happen but if you rotate the shape in a 360 degree manner, it will change the direction of the door.

Perfect, thanks Sam. I managed to get it to work that way. Cheers.

How do I flip a floor plan? Theres walls and doors, no windows. I have tried to group and rotate, I have tried to select all the shapes (entire floorplan) even then the arrow to flip the selected doesn't show. I'm at a lost and I am desperate.

Same as Nicky, this would be a nice feature to have.  I created room layouts separately and now want to rotate and arrange them for the whole plan.  I do NOT want to have to redo each room!!

Hi All,

Thanks for reaching out! Unfortunately, Lucidchart does not currently support rotating diagrams. However, we really value the input that our users give us to make our product better. Please submit your request to our Feature Request Form. Thanks!

Would definitely be nice to have a simple door rotation tool in the floor plan template!

It looks like not much has improved as I am attempting to group walls without any doors or windows for a floor plan and now I need to rotate the group and can not see a way to do it since the rotate features are not selectable and dimmed.  Redoing the floor plan is not reasonable. If there is a way to rotate the group it is not easily discoverable?

Hi there,

Thanks for reaching out in the community. That is how the floor plans functionality is intended to function. I understand how it could be useful for your use case. We're always looking for ways to improve Lucidchart, and your feedback is the best way for us to do that. Would you mind adding your idea to our feature request form. This form allows our team to categorize like requests and bring them to our product team. Thanks for your request!

My fix for this was to save my stencils for Walls, Doors and Windows in Visio Professional to .vssx file. I then imported that file into Lucidchart without a issue. I then was able to use those stencils and have the functionality to rotate, flip, resize and move the X, Y positioning.
