Format and Edit Text

You can easily customize the appearance of your text in Lucidchart by formatting its size, alignment, color, font, styling, and bulleting.

To change text size, follow these steps:

  1. Select the text by double-clicking on it.
  2. Adjust the text size in the properties bar.

To align text, follow these steps:

  1. Select the object by single-clicking on the object.
  2. Set the vertical and horizontal alignment by selecting the buttons on the properties bar.

To change the color of a string of text, follow these steps:

  1. Select a string of text by double-clicking it.
  2. Click on the "Text Color" icon in the Properties bar, denoted by an underlined "A."

  3. Select the color you want by clicking on the corresponding color swatch.

    Alternatively, click on the color wheel to manually pick a color by adjusting the HSB and RGBA values in your color space, or by typing the hexidecimal code of the color you desire into the text box next to the # symbol.

    See below for instructions on how to identify the RGB values of a color that is already used in your diagram.
  4. Select your desired opacity by moving the blue dot horizontally across the OPACITY bar or by inputting a percentage to the box on its right.

To identify the color of an object on your canvas, click on the wand to the left of the color wheel.

A magnifying lens containing a grid will appear on your canvas. Hover over the object in question and the RGB coordinates of its color will display within the magnifying lens.

To change font, follow these steps:

  1. Select the text by double-clicking on it.
  2. Click the font and select the new font from the drop-down menu.

To add text styling, follow these steps:

  1. Select the text by double-clicking on it.
  2. On the properties menu, toggle Bold, Italic, Underline, Strike-through, Superscript, and Subscript.
  3. You can also use hotkeys to quickly apply styles to your text. You can see a full list of hotkeys by clicking on "Help."

To add bullets to text, follow these steps:

  1. Select text by double-clicking on it.
  2. Click the bulleting menu on the properties bar.
  3. Select from the list of bulleting styles.
  4. Add a new line of text by typing ‘Ctrl+Enter’.

Note: To end a bulleted list and continue typing, press ‘Shift+Enter’ to start a new line of text without a bullet point.
