Work with Text

Whether you’re diagramming your words or using words to explain your diagram, Lucidchart makes it easy for you to add and edit text. Read on to learn how to add text to different parts of your diagram, edit the text’s appearance and layout, and upload custom fonts to the editor.

You can add text to a shape, line, or directly to the canvas using a text box.

To add text to a shape, drag a shape out of the toolbox or double-click on an existing shape and start typing.

To add text to a line, double-click on the line to create a text box and start typing.

You can move the text box along the line, or directly above/below/to the side of the line by clicking on it and dragging.

To add a text box to the canvas, double-click anywhere on the canvas or drag Screen_Shot_2017-11-08_at_10.26.41_PM.png out of the toolbox and drop it on the canvas.

You can also create a text box by dragging a line out of an existing text box and selecting Screen_Shot_2017-11-08_at_10.26.41_PM.png

Add text to an image by dragging a text box over it. If the image is covering up the text, right-click on the image and select Arrange > Send Item Backward or right-click on the text box and select Arrange > Bring Item Forward.
