Format Lines and Arrows

Customize the way lines look by changing the color, thickness, style, angle, or arrow type. It’s so simple that you don’t really need instructions… but we will deliver them anyway.

To change the line color, follow these steps:

  1. Select a line by clicking on it.
  2. Click on the Line Color box on the Properties bar to open the color picker.
  3. Select the color you want, and Lucidchart will recolor your line.

To change line thickness, follow these steps:

  1. Select a line by clicking on it.
  2. Click on the arrows in the Line Width box in the Properties bar to increase or decrease the width of your line.

To change the style of a line, follow these steps:

  1. Select a line by clicking on it.
  2. Click the Line Style drop-down menu in the Properties bar to see the available line styles.
  3. Select the line style you want.

To change the shape of your line, follow these steps:

  1. Select a line by clicking on it.
  2. Click the Line Options icon in the Properties bar.
  3. Select one of the three angle types available (curved, elbow, or direct).

To change a line's arrow type, follow these steps:

  1. Select a line by clicking on it.
  2. Click one of the arrow types (or “None”) for each side of the line, as shown below.

To add multiplicities or reverse line direction for ERD or UML lines, select a line by clicking on it. A pop-up will appear and give you two options: Add Multiplicities and Reverse Line Direction.

After selecting a line, go to the Properties bar to change the line endings. You’ll notice that certain shape libraries offer additional line endings that are common for those shapes.
