Import and Manage Images

Liven up your diagrams with images, icons, and video! This tutorial explains how to upload images, find images using our image search integrations, share images with your team, and import videos.

To upload images, choose one of these options:

  • Drag or copy and paste images directly onto the canvas.
  • Click the Import Images icon and then “Image” or “SVG” to upload images from your computer. You’ll find that icon right above the shape libraries on the left side of the editor.
  • From the Menu bar, select Insert > Image or Insert > SVG.

    Image Drop Down Options
Please note that GIFs are not supported in Lucidchart.

Thanks to our integrations with Bing and Iconfinder, you can search for images and icons right in the Lucidchart editor. Follow these steps:

  1. Click the magnifying glass icon above your shape libraries on the left side of the editor.
  2. Click “Images” to perform a Bing image search, or click “Icons” to perform an Iconfinder search.
  3. Once you find an image you want to use, click the image and drag it onto the canvas.

    Image Search

To crop your image, right-click on the image and select “Crop Image.” Then drag the crop points around your image to customize the crop and click enter to save your changes.

To share images with your team, you’ll need to create a custom shape library and turn on team sharing. Follow these simple steps:

  1. Open the Shape Library Manager by clicking “+ Shapes” in the Toolbox or by pressing the “M” key.
  2. Scroll to the bottom of the list of shape libraries. In the field that says “Create custom library,” enter the name of your custom library. Click “+.”
  3. Click on your newly created shape library in the list. Turn on the team sharing button next to the library name.

Now your team members can add your shape library to their Lucidchart accounts and gain access to any images you put in the library. Drag and drop images from the canvas to add them to your custom library.

Shape Manager

To insert a YouTube or Vimeo video into your diagram, follow these steps:

  1. Open the Shape Library Manager by clicking “+ Shapes” in the Toolbox or by pressing the “M” key.
  2. Drag the video shape to the canvas. When you drop the shape, a dialog will appear asking you to enter a YouTube or Vimeo URL.
  3. Add a YouTube or Vimeo link to embed your video.

You can double-click on the shape to change the URL at any time. In presentation mode or in an embedded diagram, you can click the shape to play the video within your diagram. If you include the video shape in a PDF, clicking the shape will take you to the YouTube or Vimeo URL.
